IRON MAIDEN Manager Comments On Deadly Czech Train Crash
August 9, 2008A large group of people heading for a concert by British heavy metal band IRON MAIDEN at a Prague football stadium was among the 400 passengers on an express train which crashed on Friday (August 8) into a road bridge in the Czech Republic as it collapsed on to the tracks, killing seven people and injuring 35.
"We were on our way to Prague to see the IRON MAIDEN concert like so many other people on this train," Emil Richter from Orlová told Aktualne.cz. "The wagon in front of our wagon was completely destroyed. I heard crying and screaming. There was a boy who was all buried under the debris. We tried to pull him out but it was impossible. And then the young woman, she was all naked and her body so deformed. I cannot describe that."
"The ambulances were here in five minutes," says Vítezslav Polák from Bohumín. He and his daughter were going to see IRON MAIDEN too.

In a posting on the band's official web site, IRON MAIDEN manager Rod Smallwood wrote, "We are shocked and horrified at this news and wish to pass on our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who died and our best hopes and prayers for the rapid recovery of the many injured. Apparently there were many Polish and Czech Maiden fans on board on the way to [Friday night's] concert at the Slavia Football Stadium in Prague, which is why we were contacted and informed of this by the Polish media. . . We hope that you fans will join us in praying for all those involved."
